Land of the Dead Begins Tomorrow
From the Herald:
Greetings!
Tomorrow (Tuesday, 6/23/09) all North American servers will be brought offline at 8:00AM EDT with Oceanic following at 9:00AM EDT to open the Land of the Dead for the winning realms of this past week's Live Event: Rise of the Tomb Kings! In addition multiple other small improvements will also be made during this downtime.
We anticipate servers to be online by 1:00PM EDT. As always stay tuned to the Herald for information during this and other future downtimes, thank you!
Tonight should make for some particularly intense RVR as both sides struggle to solidify their victory for tomorrow's launch.
Patch Day for Everquest 2
Warhammer Online is not the only MMO getting full on game update love today! Everquest 2 is launching its Monument and Might Game Update.
What can EQ2 players expect?
EverQuest® II’s game update, Monument and Might reveals the true appearance of Kurn’s Tower to Norrath; panicking the inhabitants of Kunark and intriguing adventurers to its doors. A new void anchor emanates from the tower, as if a ghastly chord has tied its fate with the invading void. A warlord from a far-off land has turned his conquering eye upon the lands of Kunark and will stop at nothing to find a great power that may lie just within the tower’s walls!
- Let someone else do the work for you! Monument and Might introduces Research Assistants which allow players to train their spells up to higher grades one at a time! They are available around Qeynos and Freeport, Neriak, Haven, Gorowyn, and Kelethin. Check out the research guild hall amenity that allows you to access the research system in the comfort of your own house or guild hall!
- More than 80 new quests in the Rise of Kunark overland zones!
- Player-written books - Leave your permanent mark in Norrath by writing and distributing books! Books look and act just like the current books in the game, and you can hold them in your inventory or place them in your house or guild hall for other players to read. Read Rothgar’s blog about user-written books here!
- All-new Charasis West Wing group quests!
I for one have been dying to see the release of the Research Assistants - such a great idea!

Star Trek Online staying true to the original timeline
Given the alternate timeline created by the events in the new Star Trek film, a lot of questions were raised about where in the timeline the upcoming Star Trek Online game would sit exactly. Cryptic answered these questions today in an entry on their news blog.
In the movie, two characters travel back in time from the year 2387. When Nero arrives in the year 2233, he disrupts the time continuum, creating an alternate reality from the point of his arrival. Star Trek (the new movie) takes place in this alternate reality. This is explained in the film in a conversation between Uhura and Spock on the bridge of the Enterprise.
Star Trek Online is set in the "prime" Star Trek reality. This is the timeline of the five television series and the first 10 movies. It is the world in which the Gorn attacked Cestus III, Kirk fought Khan in the Mutara Nebula, Picard explored the galaxy, the Federation fought the Dominion War, Voyager was stranded in the Delta Quadrant and Captain Archer and the crew of the NX-01 showed us how it all began.
So, there you have it. Star Trek Online will take place in the original timeline/universe that we all know and (more or less) love. Hit their site for a fun visual on where exactly STO sits in the "prime" timeline.
